It’s a fact that, India still yet to accept the equality and inclusion of the Persons with Disabilities. UNCRPD (United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities) we follow… the present UPA government praises itself, but they forget the basic human rights.
A RIGHT OF A PERSON CAN NEVER BE A FAVOR DONE BY OTHERS, ITS AS NATURAL AS BREATHING, AS SPONTANEOUS AS LIVING.
I have seen governments and leaders going desperate over issues, parties and people fighting over whose credit it is, if something good happens … and who’s at fault when something goes wrong… well.. Here there is no such confusion.
Read the below news reports- which are reported delayed (everyone other than The Hindu) just opposite the house of Mr. Gandhi, Police beat activists who are peacefully protesting against the RPWD bill 2014 taking an ordinance route.
One activist and partially sighted Mr. Ram Karan Singh, a young lad of 23 years, and an Arjuna Awardee lost his eye sight. Means he can never participate in games again. There are slim chances of regaining the same level of vision again, but, what about the confidence he lost?
My question to many political leaders of this country … when you are pushing things by calling disability as minority, have you ever experienced these things?
Have you ever been in /imagine plight of a visually challenged person in a lathi charge… They don’t can’t see from where the lathi is coming and who is going to hit them! its like being beaten in the pitch dark , like being in closed doors..unaware of the direction of the target..!!
Have you ever lived the most helpless lives, when you are hungry and food is opposite you, but you can never lift a hand or even a finger to take a morsel and you wait for hours for a care-provider to come and feed you?
Have you thought about life in a wheelchair and their predicaments in a country like India, where they are at the mercy of their original, immediate families and friends
Have you been stranded and humiliated at public places for just being you… your gait, appearance which speaks more about your disability and frustration than ability?
My dear Mr. Politician …. You can play games with anyone, but you are playing with the most vulnerable community of all and potential vote bank. I am sure you will pay a heavy price.
My Dear Mr./Ms. Disability Activist…. Yes, it’s a fact that we need a lobby for our cause. But not a domineering leadership which is more interested in playing politics than working on policies and rights. When you distance yourself from the ground realities.. you lose the ground completely and forever.
Please read the following reports-
Arjuna Awardee Loses Sight in Police Action – ( UPA loses its vision completely )
Chief Commissioners Letter Urging Government to Stop the Ordinance Route – (We are still in begging mode for our rights, which is sad state of affairs)
Paying heavy price and getting so little is not new to disability community… MY URGE IS THAT LETS NOT MAKE IT A HABIT OF SETTLING FOR LESS AND SETTLING TOO SOON ..!!
My sincere thanks to Everyone from different abilities and disabilities who are working assertively. Being assertive is the need of the hour.
I remember today Sri. Rahul Cherian and Ms. Amba Salelkar of Inclusive Planet who has been tirelessly working on this issue.. Carrying the legacy left by Rahul
And FINALLY HERE’S A CHALLENGE TO ALL… GIVE THE RIGHT ..RIGHT RIGHT BILL , NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION AND NOT AN ORDINANCE AND WE WILL GIVE YOU VOTES..!!
HERE ALSO, YOU ARE AT SAFE SIDE … WHAT SAY YOU POLITICAL PARTY …??
